Our series “Get Crafty” gives you the inspiration for creating inventive DIY projects during the holidays and year round. Learn to make a beautiful DIY Mother's Day floral centerpiece for mom or another special woman in your life.
Whether you're organizing something big for mom this Mother's Day — like, say, a Mother's Day wine tasting — or just giving her some time to herself, making her a DIY gift with flowers is a gesture that she will always appreciate.
No matter what kind of celebration you’re planning, this pretty Mother's Day floral centerpiece will be the perfect finishing touch — and it’s so easy to make, too! (Seriously, anyone can do it.)
How to make it
I started with 7-inch metal letters that I picked up at a local crafts store. Then, I cut pieces of floral foam to completely fill in the back of each letter. You will need to thoroughly soak the foam; this can be done either before or after placing the foam into the letters.
I used a different flower in each letter — mini carnations, standard carnations, and spray roses — all in the same pink color family. Almost any small flower will work.
- Cut the stem of each flower to about 1 inch in length.
- Insert each stem directly into the foam.
- Continue inserting flowers until you have covered all the foam in each letter.
And that’s all there is to it! Stand each letter upright to display "M-O-M" spelled out in flowers. I also tucked in a few faux butterflies to add a bit of whimsy.
Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there!
